“I was touched by the generosity of the community I encountered through the Misk Fellowship. It strengthened my strong commitment to employing my knowledge, capabilities, and research towards community service and humanity.”

Abdullah had a thriving educational experience. It started with attaining a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom, before earning a dual master’s degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), followed by a Ph.D. in Computational Science and Engineering.

Nowadays, Abdullah occupies several honoring positions through which he contributes to the development of his field of expertise and proudly represents Saudi Arabia on the international stage. He is a Computational Social Scientist and Assistant Professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management. Also, he is an active member of the Center for Complex Engineering Systems at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, the MIT Center for Computational Engineering, and the MIT Connection Science Research Initiative.

Early 2018, Abdullah joined Misk Fellowship and worked with other fellows to create a growing network to exchange knowledge, ideology, and expertise. They are well aware of their future roles as prominent leaders seeking to solve some of the greatest challenges facing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the world as a whole.

Abdullah is now actively working on several research projects. Through his current research, he aims to gain a deeper understanding of how people make decisions in a social environment where decisions are influenced by interactions with others. He employs a wide array of methods ranging from behavioral experiments and observational studies to computer simulations and mathematical analysis. Also, he teaches graduate courses in Analytics, Machine Learning, and Computational Social Science.

Through Abdullah’s journey, Misk’s fellowship contributed to broadening his horizons as an ambitious young man. He realized through his various experiences, that intelligence is not limited to generating the most influential ideas, but it also includes broadening the personal perspective to be able to look at issues from different angles and find diverse ideas that one draws from every person he meets or interacts with. Leaders of change are those who put their hands in others’ hands to create a better tomorrow because nothing can motivate a person as much as an inspiring community of creative people.

Abdullah continues to share his inspiring experiences and deep convictions with others in Saudi Arabia through mentoring and community service programs, inspiring not only the participants but the entire community around them.
